Policies & Procedures

The following requirements apply to staff who have any contact with the children or with anything with which the children come into contact. These policies supplement any other personnel policies.

Smoking, Prohibited Substances, Firearms and Other Weapons:

The indoor and outdoor environment, and vehicles used by Noah’s Ark are designated as non smoking areas. The use of tobacco in any form, alcohol, or illegal drugs is prohibited on the facility premises.

Possession of illegal substances or unauthorized potentially toxic substances is prohibited.

All childcare givers and staff will maintain sobriety while providing child care. Caregivers, staff or other adults who are inebriated, intoxicated, or otherwise under the influence of mind altering or polluting substances will be required to leave the premises immediately.

No guns or other lethal weapons will be in the center.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

All staff (volunteer and paid) who have any contact with the children or with anything with which the children come into contact, will have an initial, job related health assessment performed within the 4 month period that begins three months before the employment date and ends one month after the employment date. (See Attachment Appendix A). The staff health assessment will be signed by a physician or CRNP will include:

A health history

A physical Examination

Vision and hearing screening

TB Screening by the Mantoux method to check for infection with TB, unless there is documentation that there has been a positive test result in the past active TB that has been successfully treated. If the first test is negative, the skin test is repeated within one month. Persons with a negative initial TB skin test should have a repeat test every two years as long as the test remains negative.

A review of immunization status for measles, mumps, rubella, diphtheria, tetanus, and poli. An assessment of the need for vaccines against varicella, influenza, pneumococcus, and hepatitis B, and risk from exposure to common childhood infections for which vaccines are not available, such as parvovirus and cytomegalovirus.

A review of occupational health concerns, including risk during pregnancy, if appropriate.

An assessment will be performed that considers orthopedic, psychological, neurological, or sensory limitations or communicable diseases that may impair the adult’s ability to perform the essential functions of the job with accommodation or pose a significant likelihood of danger to the health and safety of the caregiver or others. All staff (volunteer and paid) are required to read and sign a statement of health risks related to working in child care.

A list of potentially hazardous materials present in the facility and Material Safety Data Sheets are available at the front desk in the BLUE file Cabinet upon request. This information will be reviewed and updated by___________________ annually.

All staff (volunteer and paid) will provide two written references from persons who are not family members who can vouch that the prospective

staff members is reliable and able to work well with children.

A check of public records for history of conviction of a crime against children (Child Abuse Registry) will be completed prior to any caregiver’s

Contact with children. All potential employees, substitutes and volunteers will be required to attest to any previous convictions, in particular whether they have ever been convicted of any crime. A volunteer’s or employee’s failure to fully disclose previous convictions will be viewed as automatic grounds for dismissal.

All caregivers will sign an agreement to abide by the policies of this program.
